Frequently Asked Questions

  • For most clients, therapy involves four different phases. This includes assessment, formulation, treatment, and maintenance. In lay terms, this means firstly understanding your challenges (assessment and formulation) and then treatment (addressing the issues at hand) and then maintenance (ensuring the issues don’t come back).

  • Sessions are priced at $215 each. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you are entitled to a rebate of $145.25. This means sessions incur an out of pocket expense of $69.75. Please note that rebates can take up to 48 hours to be processed.

  • A mental health care plan is a document you can obtain from your GP if you are experiencing mental health challenges. This document then allows you to see a psychologist and obtain a rebate for your session. Whilst you will still be required to pay for the gap fee, a Mental Health Care Plan significantly reduces the out of pocket expense associated with seeing a psychologist. You can call your GP clinic and request an appointment with your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan. Be sure to let your GP clinic know that you are booking in an appointment to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan. This will ensure they book you a longer session.

  • Sessions last for approximately 50 minutes.

  • Every Australian citizen is entitled to 10 rebated sessions per year (i.e. 10 rebates per year). Once these are used, people have the option to pay privately thereafter.

  • All information collected during sessions is stored on a private software with password encryption. No one outside of your psychologist has access to this information unless you give prior consent for it to be shared.

  • Each therapist, regardless of position title, is different. That being said, there are some broad differences between a psychologist and a counsellor. Namely, psychologists are required to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority. This governing body ensures psychologists provide a high standard of care as prescribed by the Australian Psychological Association. Psychologist, and especially clinical psychologists are required to undergo significantly more training in assessment, treatment, research and ethics compared to other counselling professions. As a result, clinical psychology is the most highly endorsed and trusted title in the therapy professions.
